CATCHY TITLE: Creating eTextbooks using free and open content Presenter: Dave Fountaine
Dave will share his experiences as an “Open Educational Resources Fellow” with Curriki.org, as well as his work with the CK-12.org Foundation. CK-12 focuses on exceptional quality, digital textbooks that are free from copyrights and allow the teachers to edit the content; and Curriki’s goal is to deliver high quality curriculum material (like lesson plans, teaching units, tests, and measurements...) that have been peer reviewed, and donate them freely to the world. A particular emphasis for this session will be on the practicality of integrating OER’s in RI schools and the pilot project he lead this past spring to help teachers develop their own eTextbooks.
DISCUSS AND SHARE (15 minutes):
How many times did you access digital content online this past year to supplement your instruction?
Do you know how much money your district spends a year on textbook purchasing?
Have you ever shared your knowledge and work with others for free?
